Why We Are

We began this group of organizations with the simple goal of filling the gaps in care that we discovered during our own journey. Obviously, that has evolved into something much more complex and ultimately (we hope) something that can fulfill a greater set of needs than we originally imagined.

The caregiver dilemma is real, and growing alongside the “silver tsunami,” so we are going to bring light and attention to the Bad Donkeys who would never ask for it themselves. Among the general public, inclusion of people with disabilities is better than in eras past, but there is still work to do. Our way of contributing to that work is helping people access their empathy by finding their own “Tricky” and seeing others open up about theirs.

Then, there is the C.L.I.M.B. Therapy Camp. This is our dream for kids with hemiplegia and is the ultimate stretch goal for us. When that vision is realized, it will be a boon to stroke survivors, researchers, caregivers, hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy survivors, and the science generated there could help survivors of all kinds of traumatic brain injury.

Our vision needs generous funding, but we are committed to building an endowment over time, through donated profits from Lil Heroes operations, along with What’s Your Tricky and the Bad Donkey Respite Project.

Our daughter had a stroke in December of 2021 at the age of three. Through her hard work, her brother’s “sibling warrior” support, countless dedicated therapists, and the nature of our loving, close-knit family, she has made remarkable strides in her recovery.
